Bolt Beta 3 Browser Review

I’ve been using the new release of Bolt (V 1.04, aka Beta 3) for about a day now and I’m quite impressed.  This release represents a significant upgrade.  The new support for bold and italic fonts, file uploading  and copying text from web pages is particularly welcome. Bolt and italic support may seem like a small thing but it makes for a big improvement in the appearance and readability of many sites. Of all the server assisted Java based browsers … Continue reading

They are sort of a lightweight version of FireFox extensions.  Bookmarklets can do all sorts of clever things like changing the color of all the links on a page, displaying site cookies or HTTP headers, translating the page to a different language or posting a link … Continue reading

End of An Era: AvantGo Shutting Down

Back in the day I used it extensively to keep my Handspring Visor filled with the latest web content for reading on my long commute on the train. The drill with AvantGo was, first go to AvantGo.com, login and search for the “channels” you wanted to read on your PDA. There were hundreds of channels … Continue reading

New UCWEB 6.6 Beta

Last week UCWEB released a new Beta of their namesake product, a fast server based browser similar in concept to Opera Mini and Bolt but with some great additional features including tabbed browsing and the ability to copy text from web pages.  The new release is version 6.6 and is only available in Chinese from official sources. Fortuanately for English speakers, the Java version of  the Beta has been translated by the same two UCWEB Forum members, New88 and Mannuforall, who … Continue reading

Skyfire 1.0 Reviewed

Version 1.0 of the Skyfire browser for Windows Mobile 5 and 6 and Symbian S60 3rd edition was released on Wednesday. I saw the announcement during the Google I/O keynote but I was so busy covering the event that I only got around to downloading the new release today.  It probably took a little longer for me because it meant putting down my new toy, the HTC Magic developer phone that Google gave away at I/O, and picking up my … Continue reading
