Google Plus Web Apps For Every Mobile Browser

Google Plus, the search giant’s latest try at social media, seems to be taking off. I’m not going to try to explain Google Plus here.  If you need an introduction to it a couple of good ones are Google’s interactive tutorial and and Paul Boutin’s clear description of the basics.  This post is a look at the available options  for using Plus on a mobile device. The richest Google Plus experience is with the official Android app which requires Android 2.1 or latter. Almost … Continue reading

Albite – Free Java eBook Reader With Touch and ePub Support

I enjoy reading novels on my phones, particularly when traveling. I’m always on the lookout for new eBook readers particularly for Symbian^3 and Java feature phones where there aren’t many good options.  A reader pointed me to Albite, a new mobile Java eBook reading app that comes in several versions including one optimized for Symbian touchscreen devices. Albite reader is a free open source (Apache 2.0 license) app  by Svetlin Ankov. Download it from albite.vlexofree.com (mobile download site: m.albite.vlexofree.com).  The key feature of Albite … Continue reading

How To Reset the Nokia E6 and Re-install the OS

Featured

To my horror the Nokia E6 review unit that WOMWorldNokia sent me seems to have developed a fault and has been spontaneously rebooting every ten minutes or so since yesterday morning.  I really like the phone and hoped to get a few more days use out of it before I have to send it back.  I’ve been successful in the past at fixing misbehaving Symbian phones with a soft or hard reset so I set about trying … Continue reading

What’s On My Nokia E6?

While there aren’t as many apps available for Symbian as there are for iOS and Android, I’ve always been able to find everything I need for my Symbian phones. Here are the apps I like and use on the E6 that WOMWorld/Nokia has loaned me. All are free except for Gravity: Gravity needs no introduction for most Symbian users. It’s a beautifully designed, highly intuitive and immensely powerful client for Twitter, Facebook, Identica and Foursquare. There’s rudimentary Google Reader support … Continue reading

A Great Little Phone – Nokia E6 Unboxing and First Impressions

WOMWorld/Nokia has loaned me a Nokia E6 to evaluate. Here are my initial impressions and few unboxing photos. Hardware: This is one solid little phone. Mine is black with white and stainless steel trim which I think looks quite nice on this particular phone. The battery door and sides are metal and the front is all glass. The body of the phone appears to be a high quality plastic that is almost indistinguishable from cast metal.  The back of the … Continue reading

Google News Now Optimized For Opera Mini

Click images to view full size. Yesterday Google announced that they are now serving Opera Mini visitors to news.google.com a version of the site that’s optimized for their browsers. Up to now Opera Mini users had been seeing the bare bones legacy mobile version of News. The legacy view is optimized for embedded feature phone WAP browsers and only displays five headlines from a single section per page with no images. Google News for Opera Mini is very similar to … Continue reading
