FriendFeed To Go

It’s not new, but I just discovered this mobile FriendFeed client.  It’s called FFtoGo and the mobile URL is fftogo.com.  It wasn’t developed by FriendFeed but is the creation of Benjamin Golub. He was later hired by FriendFeed but FFtoGo remains independent. The code for FFtoGo is open source, there’s even a link to the source repository at the bottom of each FFtoGo page. If you aren’t familiar with FriendFeed (FF), it’s a service that lets you roll up the … Continue reading

Carnival of the Mobilists #155

Photo: Carnival Mandala by Carf Some Rights Reserved I’ve missed the Carnival of the Mobilists during its annual holiday break the last few weeks. This week it’s back with bells on, hosted by Helen Keegan on her blog, Musings of a mobile marketer. This, the first Carnival of the new year, contains a number of  posts looking back at 2008 and offering predictions for 2009’s mobile future.  There are also pieces on mobile marketing, development, business, hardware and software. A … Continue reading

Opera Mini Tip – Easy Bookmark Management

This is the second in a continuing series of tips on getting the most out of Opera Mini, the great Java based mobile browser that brings full web browsing to almost any phone. Opera Mini supports bookmarks of course. It’s very easy to bookmark the current page using the menus or with the shortcut key combination of  the # key followed by the 7 key . Opera Mini also has a great feature called “Speed Dial” which lets you assign  … Continue reading

BlackBerry Tips and Downloads

As a new user of an old BlackBerry 7100i, I’ve been making heavy use of the LazyWeb and its offspring, the LazyMobile Web to learn the secrets of this powerful but quirky device and to find games and apps to download.  Here are quick reviews of a couple of BlackBerry specific mobile sites I’ve found useful. I’ve added them to the WapReview Directory’s BlackBerry section. BlackBerryTrade (mobile.blackberrytrade.com)  is a relatively new BlackBerry news blog, user forum and download site. The … Continue reading

2009 Predictions – What’s Ahead For Mobile

Photo: New Year’s fireworks over Tbilisi, Georgia by vshioshvili Some Rights Reserved In spite of  so-so results with my 2008 predictions, I’m back to try again. 2009 will be a year of significant changes in the mobile world. The current global recession will have a profound negative effect on all industries. Fortunately, mobile will be affected less than most. Users may cut back on mobile spending but they won’t give up their phones and startups will continue to innovate in … Continue reading

What’s The Best Twitter Mobile Web Client?

Micro-blogging service, Twitter is one of the big successes of Web 2.0  in terms of mine share and number of users, if not profits.  The simple open social network, where content is limited to 140 character status messages,  now has over five million users.  The 140 character limit comes from Twitter’s origins as an SMS service, but Twitter’s elimination of SMS updates in most of the world doesn’t seem to have slowed Twitter down. Most Twitter people (Tweeps?)  seem to … Continue reading

AdSense for Mobile Woes

I’ve been running AdMob’s ads on my mobile sites for a couple of years and have been very happy with both the revenue and AdMob’s service and support.  In the last six months though I’ve seen AdMob’s fill rate decline from nearly 100% to about 60% with a corresponding decrease in revenue.  I suspect the decline is due to the recession combined with the huge increase in the number of mobile sites and mobile web traffic that has occurred this … Continue reading

Free Mobile Flash Games at Playyoo

Flash Lite is Adobe’s version of Flash for mobile phones. It’s been around since 2005 but never really caught on except in Japan. It’s pretty much a commercial failure in the rest of the world and I blame that on Adobe’s greed. On the PC the Flash player is free and Adobe makes its money on development tools. With Flash Lite, the player has to be purchased, either by end users or device manufacturers. Charging for the player doomed Flash … Continue reading
