Google I/O Day One Wrap Up

The theme of today’s I/O keynote was Google’s commitment to HTML5 and web apps. The day’s significant announcements all lend support to Google’s web centric vision of the future: Google announced that it has open sourced the  high performance VP8 video codec that Google acquired through their acquisition of On2. VP8 packaged with the Ogg Vorbis audio codec in the  Matroska  container format make up WebM, a new web video standard that is 100% open source and royalty free.  WebM … Continue reading

Don’t Miss It! Mobile 2.0 Europe – June 17, 2010

The European version of my favorite mobile conference, Mobile 2.0 will be held June 17th in Barcelona at the beautiful new campus of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra . While I won’t be able to make it to Barcelona this year, I’ve attended several of the past  Mobile 2.0 events and found them extremely worthwhile. Somehow the Mobile 2.0 organizers always seems to get  the best speakers and host the liveliest panels.  And it all happens in a fast paced format … Continue reading

Mobile 2.0 – Apps vs. Browser Based Web Services

I spent the last two days at the Mobile 2.0 Conference – Silicon Valley. It was ably organized and run with great attention to detail by Greg Gorman, Mike Rowehl and Peter Vesterbacka with off-site support from Rudy De Waele and Daniel Appelquist . The event was two … Continue reading
