Google continues to roll out new mobile products.  Monday it was Tasks, yesterday Latitude and today we have Google Mobile Book Search at books.google.com/m.  It’s an iPhonesque mobile interface into 1.5 million  public domain books that Google has scanned as part of its Book Search project. I heard about it first  from microflash on Twitter.  There’s an official announcement on the Inside Book Search blog. The new mobile interface lets you search  for and read any of  the 1.5 million … Continue reading

Google Latitude – This is Big!

Last month Google killed four of their mobile services (Jaiku, Notes, Dodgeball and the iPhone and Android specific variants of iGoogle) and I was starting to have doubts about the search and advertising giant’s commitment to mobile. I shouldn’t have doubted, on Monday Google rolled out Tasks for Mobile, and today launched a brand new service, Google Latitude. Latitude adds location tracking to the Google Maps mobile application and to iGoogle on the desktop.  You can track yourself and anyone … Continue reading

2009 Predictions – What’s Ahead For Mobile

Photo: New Year’s fireworks over Tbilisi, Georgia by vshioshvili Some Rights Reserved In spite of  so-so results with my 2008 predictions, I’m back to try again. 2009 will be a year of significant changes in the mobile world. The current global recession will have a profound negative effect on all industries. Fortunately, mobile will be affected less than most. Users may cut back on mobile spending but they won’t give up their phones and startups will continue to innovate in … Continue reading

148th Carnival of the Mobilists at Mopocket

There’s a new Carnival of the Mobilists posted at mopocket.com.  It’s election day in the US and this week’s Carnival host, Justin Oberman has given his carnival an election theme. Hopefully, this will serve to remind US readers to be sure to vote today.  In keeping with the theme, Little Springs Design’s Barbara Ballard contributed a piece on the (un)usability of touchscreen voting machines. There are some great posts in this week’s Carnival including a couple of new takes on … Continue reading

Beyond that everything about the phone is conjecture.  Most rumors put the device in stores Oct 13 at $199 on a two year contract.    Further rumor mongering  predicts UK and German releases, also on T-Mobile in October or November.  There’s also  the potential of a … Continue reading
