New Opera Mini Bookmarklets

I’ve added four more bookmarklets to the Opera Mini Bookmarklets page at o.yeswap.com.  They were submitted by Lucian, a  reader and regular contributor to Wap Review.  Bookmarklets are bits of JavaScript code stored in a browser bookmark.  When you launch a bookmarklet  it typically does something with the  current page like highlight all the links, display the page’s cookies or Page Rank or subscribe to the current site’s RSS feed in Google Reader or Bloglines. It used to be pretty … Continue reading

No More Openwave SDKs?

I was trying to help a mobile web developer track down a problem that was keeping his pages from displaying properly on phones with Openwave browsers, which are still widely used on feature phones from U.S. operators.  I was going to suggest that he grab the Client SDK, which is really just a browser simulator, off the Openwave developer site. When I went there, I couldn’t find it, just an message that Openwave had sold their browser business to Purple … Continue reading

UCWEB and Opera Mini Old Versions

While it’s generally best to run the latest versions of applications sometimes you can’t because they just don’t work.  This can happen if you are using an old or low memory device that doesn’t have enough resources or the right Java JSR to run the current versions.  A while back I posted links to old versions of Gmail.  To find those I had to do a  lot of digging through old forum posts and trying different google.com URLs to find … Continue reading

How to Copy PC Bookmarks to UCWEB

Over at the UCWEB Forums,  JBpseudo has come up with a way to transfer your PC bookmarks to the S60 native version of UCWEB6.  It’s not nearly as simple and elegant as using Opera Link to keep your Opera Mini bookmarks synchronized across multiple browsers but it is a time saver if you have a lot of bookmarks. It works with any browser that can export bookmarks in the de facto standard Mozilla format including Opera, Firefox, Chrome, Safari and … Continue reading

Automate Mobile Browsing With UCWEB Searchlets

One of the great things about the Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers is their support for bookmarklets which JavaScript bookmarks that interact with the current page. Bookmarklets can send the page’s URL to a web service like Google Translate to retrieve a copy in your native language or post the URL to social bookmarking service such as Delicious.com.  Bookmarklets can also modify the page to do things like change plain text URLs into clickable links. While bookmarklets are supported … Continue reading

Copy Webpage Text With Opera Mini, S60 and Blackberry

The ability to copy text from a web page is one of the most requested features by users on the Opera Mini Forum. It’s such a basic and useful function that’s available in all desktop browsers, yet hardly any mobile browsers support it.  A clever coder who goes by the handle “Cousinisaac” has found a way make web text copying possible not only in Opera mini but with several other mobile browsers too. Cousinisaac created a simple web form at … Continue reading
